So we bought a house in April, right after a monster hail storm. Which worked out great for us, because we got the seller's insurance money to get a new roof and siding. Roof is done, siding is being installed as we speak. Our first major undertaking on the interior has been the kitchen. After de-popcorning the ceilings, disassembling and sanding the cabinets, removing the chair railings/ Wanes coating, sanding the texture off the walls, installing 4 recessed lights, and patching holes, we could finally CLEAN and begin to use the space. Don't misunderstand, we are not finished... but now we just have to re-texture, paint, and reassemble the cabinets. Here's a peek at the fun we've been having...
Ben has been a very good sport about it all. My decorating priorities are apparently lost on functional people like Ben... but we balance each other out since he notices and fixes things like leaks and cracks and rotten boards- that I would probably let sit until the house fell down on me. More updates to come on these issues.
So the next big happening in our lives has been Ben's job switch. Lesson of the month: the Lord has an incredible way of blessing us if we choose to trust Him. Eric (friend from school) contacted Ben about a new job opportunity for a start-up orthopedics company. The job would be centered around design engineering, which is Ben's true talent. His last 2 jobs have just not allowed him to flourish. So he went for a prelim interview, all's well, and then was notified the NEXT DAY that his current position was being eliminated. They offered him an electrical engineering position- even farther off base from what he is gifted at. We felt that the start up company was God opening a really great door. The problem was, it wasnt clear if it would stay open, and the electrical position surely would. We decided to trust the Lord and decline the electrical job without knowledge that he could get the design job. YIKES! So packed up his stuff from the old job, flew to Salt Lake for the new interview, and said a lot of prayers. Next, Ben finds out another applicant is on the scene with 15 years experience. Great. He was told he would hear back in a little over a week. Well, the NEXT DAY he is offered the job!! A whole 3 days of unemployment! He started on Monday and is loving it! I have never seen him come home from work excited like this, obviously enjoying what he's doing. Phew! Next best part: 3 weeks severence pay from the old job in our pockets- which eliminates the worry of our slightly diminished bank account. Wow! The Lord is faithful.
I'm still working in the ICU, no new updates there. We love our church and small group, and are planning to get a golden retriever and name her Louise :) Life after college is weird- nothing defines the weeks or months from each other, just one week to the next. We're still adjusting. Anyways, thanks for stopping by, now I'm going to start cooking in the new slightly functioning kitchen!
