Tidings from Texas

Even though record-breaking summer heat surrounds us, we still know how to have a good time. We recently celebrated our 1 year Anniversary in Fredricksberg, and have been having some fun in Austin. In the Hill Country we stayed at a cute B&B, browsed art galleries, did lots of birthday/Father's Day shopping, and ate delicious German food. We never could find some specific pastry that Ben had in Germany, but certainly gorged on krout and schnitzel!

One store in particular was quite amusing, as pictured below. We found the hamburger and hot dog hats right next to plus size bras and kitchen pots, while the creepy old lady in a rocking chair guarded the door. Funny in itself, but weird because the rest of the stores were historic or sold upscale home decor. We, of course, had the most fun playing with the cheap stuff. I mean, yes I'm drooling over the king sized bed frame made of old iron gates that used to stand in some Paris garden in the 1800's....... but for $10K? uhhh... maybe it's just me, but I thought that was a touch steep for an anniversary gift.

So then Ben's parents come to Austin for the weekend, and we weathered out the heat at the good ol' Salt Lick. Drinkin beer, listening to live music in the middle of nowhere, and eating delicious BBQ on picnic tables that are smooth from wear? Yes please.

I love the feeling of sitting in the shade on a hot summer day with a fan making the breeze. A cold brewski in one hand, while the other is waving around while you tell a story to your family.... mmmmm. That's a good day! Hopefully we'll have more like that soon :) Until then, we'll keep dreaming of new things to do here in the middle of the Lone Star State! (And hopefully my in-laws will forgive me for publishing that endearing picture).
